Formed in the backstreets of Deptford circa 2003 and a regular on the London live music circuit for many a year,
Johnny Deptford are back with their raffish, chanty, full on original indie punk rock sound and kicking live shows!
After a colliding of pint glasses between Tim and John
at one of their regular haunts around Greenwich in early 2003,
Johnny Deptford was formed.
A few band members came and went over the next few months but soon after, the original line up came together – Tim Brooder on Vocals,
John Palmer and Andrew ‘Gog’ Gogan on Guitars, Nick Smith on Bass and Simon Harris on Drums. This crew of motley fellows spent the next few years writing and gigging many of the established venues around London, getting a reputation for their raffish, chanty, full on original indie punk sound and kicking live shows. In 2007 the twists and turns of life saw an end to this chapter of the Johnny Deptford story, the amps fell silent, and Johnny Deptford rested.
Then in 2023 came a few chance phone calls and with a move south from the original haunts of SE London, Johnny Deptford found themselves in the buzzing creative melting pot of Hastings on the south coast, home to some of the best live bands around. Over the next couple of months, the original line up had a blast gigging many a venue in Hastings, but in early 2024 those twists and turns of life returned and saw Gog and Simon
take leave.
It was at this point the talented Josh Gentle took hold of the vacant sticks and the new line-up was born –
Tim Brooder on Vocals, John Palmer on Guitar, Nick Smith on Bass and Josh Gentle on Drums
Johnny Deptford is the sum of all, an individual not. Everything we play live and record is our own creation, no covers, just us.
Friday 6th June 2025 see's the release of our long awaited album. It's a banging collection of songs from our past and present. No holding back, fast, furious and in your face, just as we like it!
Recorded over two days at The Forum Recording Studios, Tunbridge Wells, our aim was to bang out ten tracks 'live' with the hope that we'd get a few tracks worth taking further. On the day, dare we say, we smashed it and boom, the EP became an album. Thanks to Erik Miles who engineered and mixed, and to Pete Maher for the master.
What a buzz getting your music recorded and putting it out there, it's great, but playing live cannot be beat! To make those gigs count rehearing's what it takes and have we lucked out there. Big shout out to Del Maker along the south coast in Eastbourne whose rehearsal space is second to none.
And what's it all about?
Those that make the effort to get out there and see us and other bands, you're the bedrock of it all and for that
WE SALUTE YOU!!!
